  1. Mrs Rita Smith

I have been in hospital a few times of late and have, each time, had excellent care from staff. Having been in a few times as I have said nothing was too much trouble for them and they did not make me feel as though I was a nuisance.

  2. Dear Mrs Smith,
Thank you so much for taking time to comment on the blog. I am pleased that you have had such a good experience. With best wishes, David

  3. A&E – Worcestershire Royal Hospital
I have nothing but praise for the staff at A&E Worcester when my brother had a fall from a ladder and badly injured his ankle, requiring major surgery and a 2 week stay in the TAU. The staff in A&E were caring and compasionate and he was seen, x-rayed and scheduled for theatre very quickly. I work at WRH but not in a clinical role and I have always thought the staff were dedicated to their craft but to see it first hand as I did on that day made me realise what special people they are and we should all be very grateful that in our hour of need they are there to pick up the pieces. To watch professionals at work is very humbling and I for one wish to pass on my very grateful thanks to all the teams involved in his care for being there to patch him up.

  4. David,

Thank you so much for sharing these comments with us.
It means a great deal to get this lovely feedback from patients.

    David,

Just wanted to share some good news from the Catering Department at WRH. We were recently subject to an external hygiene audit which we have on an annual basis – and have been awarded 99% for the audit which looks at hygiene standards in the ward kitchens, restaurant, coffee shop, production areas and vending. I would like to say that we have been awarded a score of 95% or above for the last 6 years which really is an achievement. None of this would have been possible of course without the dedicated, hard working staff within the department so a great big thank you to them all.

  6. Dear David,
A very good friend gave me a copy of his Church news Bulletin and I read about you. I think what you are doing is simply exemplary: we need to be catching people doing things well. Having just joined our local Healthwatch, I am determined that we do this (whilst of course acting when/where we might need to). I have also set up a group (now 60 of us) of caring and concerned healthcare people to focus on the health and wellbeing of the NHS workforce. I am going to share your leading example of positive emotional and supportive practice with them right now!
I would very much like to keep in touch with you. Please feel free to email me as you wish.
Every good wish to you and in your vital work.
    Chris

    • Chris, that’s really kind of you. I am really pleased to hear of you work and that we have a shared vision. If there is any way in which I can further your work then I would be really pleased to do so. Thanks so much for taking the time to write. I really believe that a cultural shift can take place by sharing good news (which in no way contradicts the need to challenge bad practice wherever or indeed to act as a whistleblower). Would be very happy to chat further and to facilitate change. If you are on Twitter you might want to follow me either @revdavesouthall or @wechaplains (a new space which seeks to enhance and promote spiritual well being for patients.) With very best wishes, David

  7. David, I shall certainly follow you on Twitter (getting the hang of all this!). The evidence is now formidable for the potential and importance of our emotional processing and completely validates your belief in its power to shift cultural and individual thinking and behaviours. Barbara Fredrickson and many others are good on all this eg http://ed.ted.com/on/MsjdksQK .

Your telling me about @wechaplains also answers my next question about whether there is a national social movement of NHS chaplains and like-minded faith-based people. What you are doing is so much about enabling systemic changes in thinking, attitudes and approach. Ah, the restorative power of good news!

If you would like to join our Basecamp group, you will be most welcomed and they do now know about you and your shared vision.

    Every good wish,
    Chris

  8. Dear Ms D Narburgh (Matron)

Please could you convey to all the staff on ward 6 (Cardiac), my sincere Thanks for the treatment I received during my stay. Sister Kat and her staff at all times were caring and attended to all my needs and nothing was too much trouble.

All staff were courteous and respectful of my privacy, my stay at your hospital, although I was seriously ill the care I received was second to none. I work at the Queen Elizabeth hospital, and if ever I’m ill in the future my choice of hospital to be cared for would be the Alex.

    Once again

Thank You keep up the good work.

    Mr Mark Haywood

  9. I was in the Alexandra Redditch from 28/2/14 to 2/3 14 for prostrate reduction. Never having overnighted in hospital in my previous 71.5 years, I suppose I was probably a little nervous. I was admitted to Ward 18, D5 and from the time I arrived at Alexandra until my wife picked me up, I cannot imagine that I could have been in better hands. Everyone from admittance, theatre and ward care were really terrific and I am very grateful. I trust you make the staff aware of my feelings and should I require hospitalisation again in my next 71.5 years (??), I hope I am as fortunate with the people caring for me as I was on this occasion.
    Thanks again,
    Nigel Rogers
