Dear Choir Member,
Thanks so much for your commitment to the Voices for Health Choir. I think we can safely say that 2014 was a great success for the Choir with its formation, the Cathedral gig and the Christmas events. So here’s to 2015 with some changes, some different opportunities and, of course, the singing, fun and friendship which has marked the last few months.
Christmas Carol Concert at Worcestershire Royal Hospital
Thanks so much for those who took part in the carol singing at WRH. With only three real practice sessions at this, I think we can say that we did a great job. You can find the video of our song here if you can bear with the coughing, banging and all the other noises. I think it was also great that we sang with Sing 4 Breath. I hope there can be more occasions like this.

The Choir will start up again on Thursday 8th January 2015 and run for a 12 week “term”.

New Musical Director: Alison Southall
We have been so grateful to have Will Thompson-Brant leading us for the last few months in Voices for Health. His passion and enthusiasm, at our early stages, were invaluable. However, for a variety of reasons, (not least being financially driven) the Musical Director of our group will be Alison Southall. Alison has made a great start to leading us for our Christmas presentation “Mary Did you Know?” and is happy to lead us into 2015. She is an accomplished pianist and cellist and has been the leader of various choirs in the past. She is also a singer songwriter and you can find examples of some of her songs here: There will be no cost to Alison’s leadership of the Choir which means that we can meet weekly without needing to find £200 per month.
Voluntary Donations
I would like to suggest that, whilst we no longer need to think about subscriptions to fund the Choir, it might be a good idea to have a voluntary donation of £1 per week. This would help us fund small items like T-shirts for the Choir and the like, and cover photocopying etc.
I have never wanted money to be a barrier to being part of Voices 4 Health, so if giving a voluntary donation is a problem for you for whatever reason, then please let me know.
Future Performances in 2015
I think there will be a number of opportunities to perform next year. I am working on gigs for staff appreciation day; Christmas Carol Services; and a NHS Choirs Festival in the Cathedral sometime early September/ or Early October. This is a chance for NHS Choirs from around the country to converge on Worcester and perform to a local audience. Whilst it is a balance to not have too many gigs, it would be nice to carry on doing some public performances.
New Year…New Start
It may be that you have not been able to get along to the Choir yet but have been meaning to. Well, the dates are all up there now, so if you would like to get involved, then just come along and see what it’s like. And if you would like to recommend the choir to a friend then please do.
I hope you had a good Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year.
All the best
